Yelp's 2024 Food Trends Report: Caviar and Smoothies Set to Dominate Next Year's Culinary Scene

As the year ends, there is a growing amount of speculation on new trends that were anticipated to become popular, particularly about food. Through the use of their restaurant review hub and a trend expert, Yelp was able to predict the next year's trend and determine that caviar and smoothies will be the most popular foods in the culinary industry in the year 2024.

A study about the food and drink trends that we may anticipate in the coming year has been compiled by Yelp after consulting its data scientists and a trend expert. The research is based on analyzing everything that more than 33 million Yelp users have been searching for on the platform. The software analyzed millions of searches for the terms, phrases, and businesses that received considerable attention in the years 2022 and 2023 in the restaurant, food, and nightlife categories.

As mentioned, Caviar Bumps has emerged as the most recent food craze among consumers looking for a little bit of luxury. There was a 31% increase in the number of searches for caviar. Yelp anticipates seeing an increase in caviar content in 2024 as people continue to come to restaurants to enjoy the delicacy. Caviar bumps have been introduced to the menus of several locations, and grocery stores and merchants in the gourmet food business have reported a surge in the number of new clients interested in purchasing the delicacy.

On the other hand, searches for fruit and vegetable smoothies were also on the rise, spurred by some influencers' preferences. This year, the iconic $20 smoothies sold at the upscale grocery Erewhon in Los Angeles were searched for 178% more frequently than in previous years. Additionally, inquiries regarding the Hailey Bieber smoothie, a mixture of organic strawberries, almond milk, and collagen, surged by 408%.

As far as food is concerned, we are still very interested in caviar in all its forms, even on potato chips, as seen by the 31% increase in searches. Tsukemen, a dish consisting of cold ramen noodles dipped into a hot broth, appears to be gaining popularity, as seen by the fact that searches for "noshing" have increased by 140%. Yelp attributes this increase to the "girl dinner" fad that was unavoidable on your FYP for a few weeks.

Yelp's Forecast on Alcoholic Drinks

The data from Yelp indicates that our preferences for cocktails will shift soon. Demand for the Aperol Spritz, a popular orange drink, may become consumer interest in the Hugo Spritz. Compared to the previous years, the number of searches for that sweet version, created with elderflower liqueurs or syrups, grew by 1,121%. Moreover, the number of searches for other elderflower drinks also substantially increased. It indicates that bartenders who work professionally and from home as amateurs would want to have some St. Germain on hand for the following year.

Thus, more than just the Aperol Spritz received an unexpected boost in its brightness level. Several unexpected martini varieties, such as green mango, matcha, parmesan, pickle, and truffle martinis, also saw a spike in searches conducted on Yelp. Our curiosity regarding the Tomato-Tini grew as well, and Yelp's data indicates that we have no intention of discontinuing our orders for Espresso Martinis in the near future. Furthermore, in relation to coffee, we were also investigating "carajillo," a traditional Mexican drink prepared with coffee, as well as the Spanish liqueur known as Licor 43.
