McDonald's Becomes the 1st Major Fast Food Chain To Pay Workers To Get COVID-19 Vaccine

COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc worldwide, victimizing people, especially from the countries that still do not have the COVID-19 vaccine with them. Even with promising results, there are still Americans who are not convinced and are not planning to get vaccinated. Because of this, companies like McDonald's are thinking of a way to get more people vaccinated.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), vaccination is a safe and effective way of preventing diseases and saving lives. It adds that when an individual gets vaccinated, they are not the only one protected but also the people from the community.

McDonald's COVID-19 Vaccine

Today reported that McDonald's, the world's largest fast-food chain, is stepping up in protecting their employees against the notorious respiratory disease. McDonald's is joining the roster of companies that will provide four hours of paid time to workers who avail of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Tiffanie Boyd, the US Chief People Officer for McDonald's USA, tells Fox News about the importance of vaccination in the fight against the pandemic.

Boyd says they are actively encouraging their employees to take this critical step. Boyd adds that McDonald's corporate-owned US restaurants and US corporate workers would benefit from paid time.

Apart from McDonald's, Trader Joe's is also giving financial incentives to encourage their employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, CNBC notes that as of January 2, 2021, around 13 million COVID-19 vaccines were distributed in America, and 4.2 million were already administered.

Will the COVID-19 Vaccine Be Mandatory at McDonald's?

New York Post says that McDonald's will not make the COVID-19 vaccines mandatory among their employees. However, the company encourages immunization and connect their staff to trusted third-party experts for further info about the vaccine during these trying times. 

Boyd also shares with Fox News that McDonald's supports the widespread availability and access to the COVID-19 vaccine, which will require partnerships between the government, businesses, community, and health organizations.

Apart from the vaccination, the fast-food giant requires wellness checks, protective barriers, adherence to social distancing, masks and gloves usage, and moving to contactless operations to keep both their customers and employees protected against the COVID-19. 

New York Post notes that McDonald's is the first fast-food chain to incentivize vaccination for their employees. With companies like McDonald's making a way to promote and encourage more people to get vaccinated, humanity can take a further step in beating the virus.

COVID-19 vaccine is one way of protecting yourself and people around you from contracting the notorious disease that has taken a significant toll on the human race.
