Filling up your pantry with stocks that will last you for weeks is a regular activity. But checking the labels and researching any side effects that might harm you is not always done because we don't have the luxury of time to do that. Sadly, common foods that might still be present in your cart and pantry might have surprising hidden dangers that might affect your body in the long run.

Common food means the typical food that you eat or put as an ingredient to every dish you serve to your family. You don't want that. That is why there are common foods you need to observe due to their hidden dangers.

Nutmeg

According to The Spruce, Eats nutmeg is sweeter than mace and is an essential ingredient in bechamel sauce or mac and cheese. However, this little guy that you grate has dangers hidden deep within.

Love Foods notes that nutmeg can cause myristicin poisoning in large doses, which can be fatal or cause headache, nausea, dizziness, and hallucinations. Myristicin may also cause brain-related health problems.

We enjoy this fresh and tangy taste of sushi, although it may be a little pricy. However, did you know that this Japanese delicacy carries a load of unwanted organism we do not like?

In a New Scientist report, fish nowadays are and infected with 283 times more parasitic worms than they were 40 years ago. They add that the Anisakis worm can infect a variety of fish, including squid and marine mammals, and there is a high chance that they are present in the fish included in the sushi we eat.

They add that although the parasite cannot survive in humans, it can still trigger immune responses such as vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea.

Chicken

Children and people of all ages love chicken because of its rich taste. However, the chicken you love is dangerous when you eat it raw. According to the United State's Food Safety, the temperature for cooking chicken and turkey must be 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

When chicken is eaten raw, it might carry salmonella, which can cause flu-like symptoms, including nausea and vomiting. They add that raw chicken should not be washed.

Rice

Rice is one of the staple foods, especially if you are Asian or you have Asian blood. But did you know that rice carries a toxic compound? According to Healthline, rice accumulates more arsenic than most produce. They also emphasized that it is the single most significant food source of inorganic arsenic, which is more dangerous because they note that this toxic compound's high consumption can be fatal.

Leafy greens are known for their nutritional benefits. However, Love Foods emphasize that this crinkly green leaf is the vegetable mostly issued with a recall due to E. coli contamination. They add that outbreaks of E. coli are because of the animal waste in the soil. They also note that authorities are investigating how to prevent future outbreaks.

Now that you know the hidden dangers these common foods possess; you might want to eat them in moderation since you don't want your body to suffer. Remember that cooking them very well and food safety must always be a priority when trying to serve a meal to your family.
