Burger King Introduces New Spicy Offering – the “Angriest Whopper”

The first thing that one notices is its bun. Glowing bright red, it should serve as a warning that anyone daring enough to try Burger King's new menu item, better get their taste buds ready.

Named "the Angriest Whopper", the new menu item will feature a flame-grilled beef, with a generous amount of thick-cut bacon, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, American cheese, creamy mayonnaise, jalapeño, drenched in a spicy angry sauce and all neatly tucked between fiery red buns which were pre- mixed with another hot sauce before it was baked, according to an article by Olivia Waxman from Time.com.

That sounds an angry burger indeed with three redundant sources of spicy heat: the red buns, the jalapeños and the hot sauce. No wonder CNBC's article by Sarah Whitten advises people to bring some milk just in case.

Burger King global chief marketing officer Axel Schawan says "The black bun of our A1 Halloween Whopper created a lot of conversation, and our previous limited time Angry Whopper sandwich was a hit with guests. So, we're combining the power of these past hits into a star-studded sandwich we think our guest will unanimously agree is the next must-eat burger."

Limited-time-only menu items such as this feisty red Angriest Burger were observed to increase the chain's sales. According to Whitten's article, a 7.9 percent rise in sales was observed when the Burger King's Chicken Fries was re-released last year.

According to the Time article, the Angriest Whopper could cost between $5.49 and $7.49. But not all are too excited to the new item's choice of color with some saying that the bun might be a bit too weirdly red in color according Sam Varsanti's article for the A.V.Club.

But remember this is Burger King after all. If they pulled off that burger with black buns with A.1 sauce baked in, they could probably pull off a red version just as easily. But something has to go down with all that extra spicy heat though, a red drink perhaps?
