‘Blood Moon’ is it really a prophecy?

Blood moon begins at 08:00 GMT on the East US coast and is seen in the Eastern Asia at about 10:00 GMT on the night of Oct. 8, 2014. The second in the series of four after the April 15, 2014 total lunar eclipse.

Is 'Blood Moon' really a message from God? Both Science and religion have their own explanation for this extraordinary occurrence.

On Oct. 8 the moon passes through the earth's shadow and perfectly seen from the Pacific Ocean and neighboring regions. The moon appears bigger than it did on the first eclipse this year. Fred Espenak, author of Eclipses During 2014 also states there will be two total lunar eclipses and two solar eclipses that will be occurring in 2014. The study authored by Espenak was published in Observer's Handbook 2014, Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.

The occurrence on the other hand is what the religious proponents claim as 'Blood Moon.' John Hagee, an American founder and senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in Texas emerges to have popularized the word in his 2013 book "Blood Moons: Something is About to Change." Mark Blitz like Hagee has released his book, "The Blood Moons- Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs" to explain lunar tetrad as the fulfillment of the biblical prophecy.

Lunar Tetrad is the occurrence of four consecutive total lunar eclipses, with no partial lunar eclipses in between. Each eclipse is separated from the other by six lunar months or six full moons. In Hagee's book, he correlates lunar tetrads in 1492 and 1948 to the appalling events in the Jewish history that includes the Spanish Inquisition and Israel's War of Independence.

Jeremy Schnittman, a NASA scientist and Jewish observant has overturned these theories and request people to enjoy the exceptional celestial incident. "There's been a lot of hubbub about 'Four Blood Moons' in a row. It's actually quite reasonable that you are going to get them again every six months for the next couple of years before the cycle moves a little bit out of alignment," Schnittman adds.

The Lunar tetrad began on April 15, the second on Oct. 8 while the rest are expected to be witnessed on April and October 2015.
