McDonald's is collaborating with Greek yogurt maker Chobani for its Smoothies and parfaits in Southern California, as they are trying to transform into a "modern, progressive burger company."
According to McDonald's spokesperson, Lisa McComb, the partnership will be limited to a regional test of approximately 800 restaurants in San Diego and Los Angeles.
"It's very premature to determine if it may expand," she wrote, according to ABC News.
Restaurants taking part in the tests have started offering a "Simple Delights Menu" that consists of the Chobani-made smoothies, yogurt parfaits, and other healthy food options like apple slices, according to The Consumerist.
The restaurants in Southern California will be offering two breakfast bowls. The first is made up of egg whites, spinach, kale and turkey sausage. The second bowl is made of scrambled eggs and chorizo, which also includes a hash bowl.
Notably, the change in the breakfast menu comes as McDonald's fights to maintain its market share in Southern California and step up to its image.
According to CEO Steve Easterbrook, who took over the company in last March, the idea is to transform McDonald's into a "modern, progressive burger company."
One of the most notable moves under Easterbrook's relationship was the all -day breakfast menu in October, which helped generate positive feedbacks for the company.
Although the sales of McDonald's has seen a leap in last quarter of 2015, and is most notable compared to its competitors, yet the company has been overthrown by the aggressive marketing of its fellow competitors like Burger King, Starbucks and even Dunkin' Donuts.
Thus, it is yet to be seen if this move towards healthy eating will be a positive step towards McDonalds hike in sales or not, but the daily users of McDonald's food will definitely be pleased with the change in trends and tastes.
