Presently, the trend has shifted towards "healthy" organic food. Be it the vegan diet like vegetables, fruits or even the non - vegan foods like meat, eggs or beef, the trend is to buy the organically produced versions of the food.
According to a research conducted by Voucherbox, organically produced food costs 89% more than that of normally produced food.
The research compared the prices of 19 weekly essential items at five different locations of the United Kingdom, namely Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Tesco and Waitrose.
When compared to various own - brand productions at the supermarket, choosing organic products cost $58.91, while non - organic products cost $35.20.
"The overall additional cost for these items alone is more than you would pay for a weekend health retreat, or a week-long all-inclusive holiday," said Voucherbox UK manager Shane Forster.
Additionally, an independent review conducted by Food Standards Agency mentioned that there were no important differences in the nutrition content of organic food as compared to conventionally produced food, reported Mirror.
"Our review indicates that there is currently no evidence to support the selection of organically over conventionally produced foods on the basis of nutritional superiority," said Dr Alan Dangour, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Although, these findings do not suggest that organic food does not have any benefit compared to conventionally produced foods, yet this suggest that from health perspective, organically produced food is no different from conventionally produced food.
Notably, it was also found in the research that the cost of frozen foods is lower than the cost of fresh foods. Thus, if you are planning to stay healthy without going bankrupt, the best idea is to try out frozen foods. On an average the difference is $570 per year.
