Kim Jong-un Net Worth: North Korea’s Not So Hidden Unbelievable Wealth

Kim Jong-un is the North Korean Leader. He is 31 years old and was declared supreme leader in 2011, when Kim Jong-Il, his father, died. Kim Jong-un was only 28 years old at the time and had been married since 2009 to Ri Sol-ju, who still remains with him. He is famous, among other things, for having a fortune spread in several places.

Kim Jong-un's net worth is estimated at $5 billion dollars, according to Celebrity Net Worth, among others. Apparently, it was discovered in 2013 by a joint South Korean and American investigation. The assets that are the ones where the wealth comes from were found "in more than 200 foreign bank accounts located throughout the world in countries including Austria, Lichtenstein, Russia, Singapore, China, Switzerland and Luxemburg. Many of these accounts are located in China and reportedly contain hundreds of millions of dollars in cash. North Korean government insiders have long been suspected of manufacturing illicit drugs, counterfeiting US currency and cigarettes."

On the other hand, the big controversy that Kim Jong-un and the entire North Korea face is the fact that while he has $5 billion dollars and his wife is seen carrying a Dior handbag that is worth about $1,594, as Mic stated, the people of North Korea are in a complete different level.

As a matter of fact, a person in North Korea makes not so much more per year than that handbag. The annual GDP per capita was of $1,800 in 2013 and it hasn't changed, according to US News.

An approximate amount of half of the population in North Korea lives in "extreme poverty." That would be about 12 million people.

The inflation rises up to a hundred percent, as the currency wasn't handled properly.

The electric power is unreliable and extremely sporadic; there are cuts all the time.

And the list could go on probably for a while. The point is that Kim Jong-un's greatest irony is that the wealth he possesses is known by the world and the poverty North Korea faces is not completely accurately known as the inside facts are hard to know, but it is also calculated and they are so far apart from each other, that it stuns.
