More and more beauty products are selling out on the market because they claim to help keep one's skin healthy and glowing. What's difficult about this is that these beauty products are effective on some people, and not on others.
Not only that, but it usually takes a lot of time before you get to see your skin actually glowing. But the truth is, the answer to naturally glowing skin is actually in the food you eat - and not in the beauty stores you frequent, like Sephora.
Think about it this way: by eating your way to glowing skin, you're actually giving yourself a more balanced diet and you're on the way to a healthier lifestyle, all while saving some money.
Thanks to Mashable and beauty nutritionist Paula Simpson, here are some food and liquid you can consume on a regular basis to get that natural, healthy glow!
Hydration
It's always important to keep the skin hydrated, especially since this is the largest part of the human body. Sure, moisturizers help do the trick - but it's also important to hydrate the skin through the food you eat.
Hydration is essential in attaining good skin. Not only should you stock up on a lot of water, but you can also eat food that contain high water-content to keep it hydrated.
Picks: Dark leafy greens, cucumbers, strawberries, watermelon, pineapple
Fat
Not all fatty acids are bad. In fact they help keep your skin stay moisturized and even protects it from harsh environmental factors. It's important to bank on food that are rich in Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids, which your body can't produce on its own either.
Picks: Fatty fish (like salmon); a tablespoon of oil (olive, hempseed, grapeseed, and flaxseed oils are good choices); handfuls of flax seeds, chia seeds, or walnuts to add to cereal, oatmeal or smoothies; avocados; and plant-based ceramides in grains, like brown rice and wheat germ.
Antioxidants
You'd want to keep your skin protected from stressful environmental factors like UV rays and pollutants, which can ultimately hinder cellular renewal, can damage DNA, and trigger inflammatory reactions.
Eat food and spices that are rich in antioxidants - especially those that have carotenoids - like paprika, and fruits that have vitamin C.
Picks: Oranges, limes, lemons, grapefruits, blackberries, raspberries
Skin-Firming
Collagen is essential to achieving firm skin. And you should definitely know by now that collagen is necessary to attaining youthful, glowing, and healthy skin.
Fight the weakening of your "natural weakening of cellular activity," consume food that are rich in mineral copper and food that have high vitamin C levels to help your body produce collagen.
Picks: Poultry, eggs (eggs whites, to be specific), cod, crab, lobster, oysters, bell peppers, sweet potatoes, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, almonds, raisins, Aduki beans, kidney beans, soybeans, chickpeas, and seaweed.
