UFC President Dana White believes a rematch between UFC women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm (10-0) and former champ Ronda Rousey (12-1) is bound to happen.
After Holly Holm shook up the world of the UFC by defeating Ronda Rousey, fans were eager to know if there will be a rematch. On Thursday, fans finally got a definitive answer.
During an appearance ESPN's Mike & Mike show on Thursday, December 3, Dana said a rematch “makes sense.”
“I think that if we didn’t have a rematch, me and Lorenzo [Fertitta, the UFC CEO] should lose our promoters licenses,” Dana told the Mike & Mike hosts after asked about whether or not Ronda and Holly would face off again. “Yeah, the fight’s going to happen. I don’t know when, but it’s going to happen.”
White added, “Ronda Rousey has gone undefeated, taken the sport to another level and was beating the best women in the world in fourteen seconds or thirty seconds, so she deserves a rematch. Holly agrees she deserves a rematch, and we’ll figure it out.” Click here to watch Dana White’s statement.
This is a fight that UFC fans have been dreaming about the second their first match ended.
Holly Holm came into UFC 193 as the underdog, but the preacher's daughter shocked the world as she KO'd Ronda Rousey, who previously had a perfect UFC record.
Not only did Holm win the belt, but she did it in a most embarrassing way for the former bantamweight champion, leaving Ronda's face with a black eye and a split lip.
After their epic fight in Melbourne, Australia, reports circulated that the rematch will be during the UFC 200 event that will take place in Las Vegas in July 2016.
But due to Ronda's hectic schedule outside MMA, Dana White did not officially confirm the date and place of the most-anticipated rematch of Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm.
Rousey is also scheduled to star in an upcoming remake of the movie Roadhouse.
