Big Bang, Super Junior, Girls Generation: these are just some of the big names we often hear when we talk about Korean pop music. As the Korean wave continues to take the music and entertainment world by storm, another group is trying to move much further. They are EXO.
According to the Korean Portal, the force may indeed be with EXO as they were chosen by one of the biggest entertainment house Disney to release a song to promote another big franchise which is 'Star Wars'.
Disney made this special request in order to promote the forthcoming 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' movie. The song 'Light Saber' was released as a single on November 11. The single is now available for the public worldwide through Itunes. The song was described to have an up tempo dance beat with EDM elements that shows the entire Star Wars journey.
The 12 member group shot the music video for 'Light Saber' which has a theme of a collaboration film. It featured the members of the group as part of a Jedi-only club all styled in Star Wars-inspired outfits and actual light sabers.
The collaboration by EXO and their management agency SM Entertainment and Disney is a move to appeal to a younger audience. They wanted to attract not only the loyal Star Wars fans but to share the journey to a younger audience. Though the movie is a very popular franchise, Disney honestly said that they had a hard time attracting a younger audience. With the collaboration with EXO, this might be possible. The group's track record makes them ideal to promote the movie, as they have a global audience that follow their journey as a group.
The deal and collaboration between these two companies shows that, SM Entertainment is the only Korean company to have this kind of partnership with a Hollywood production company. With this deal, it gives a lot of opportunity for SM to give their artists global exposure. . Reports say the 'EXO/Star Wars Collaboration Project' will not be the last of SM and Disney's partnership.
