Carrie Fisher's look in the original "Star Wars" trilogy has fueled fantasies of millions over almost four decades, but, of course, the actress can't possibly look the same now than she did back in the day when she first played Princess Leia in "A New Hope" - and so Carrie Fisher's weight loss was expected.
The world completely lost it when it was announced that the original cast trio from the first trilogy would be coming back for "Episode VII: The Force Awakens," including Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill, but since the films first came out in the 1970s, only the "Indiana Jones" actor has kept in action movie star shape, which prompted the studio to demand Carrie Fisher's weight loss.
In a recent interview with Good Housekeeping UK, the now 59 year-old actress talked about how, when she was cast to reprise the role that made her famous, she was asked to trim down, prompting the Carrie Fisher weight loss.
People Magazine reports that the notoriously outspoken star joked that the Carrie Fisher weight loss happened as the studio didn't want to "hire all of [her], only about three-quarters," also candidly speaking about how the industry hasn't changed much from the time she first played the role and had to keep fit.
As far as how Carrie Fisher's weight loss happened, the actress revealed she didn't go through any special diet of any sort, just focusing on eating less and exercising more, only saying that it was easier for her to exercise more than to deprive herself of foods she loves.
"When I do lose the weight I don't like that it makes me feel good about myself. It's not who I am," the actress explained, via The Hollywood Reporter. "My problem is they talk to me like an actress but I hear them like a writer."
In any case, Carrie Fisher's weight loss allowed her to be back in the role that turned her into a superstar - but good on her for calling out these Hollywood practices!
