One of the most-awaited celebrity weddings, that of Neil Patrick Harris and partner David Burtka, has finally happened! After a 10-year relationship and two children, the former 'Doogie Howser, M.D.' star wed his longtime partner, in an intimate ceremony officiated by close friend and 'How I Met Your Mother' director Pam Fryman.
The ceremony, which was also attended by the couple's fraternal twins and which featured a special performance by Sir Elton John, was officiated in Italy with the company of the couple's close family and friends.
Harris and Burtka had been secretly engaged to each other for five years when equal marriage was legalized in the state of New York, when they tweeted they had proposed to each other years earlier and had been wearing engagement rings ever since; however, they wanted to wait until gay marriage was legal in their New York home to be married.
The couple has been together since 2004, two years before Harris 'came out' publicly. In August 2010, they announced that they were expecting twins from a surrogate mother - they were born later that year, a boy named Gideon Scott and a girl named Harper Grace. They are now three and a half years old.
After months of media speculation regarding the wedding date, this Monday Mr. Harris' representative told People Magazine that they had tied the knot over the weekend; Harris himself confirmed this later in his Twitter account, where he also posted a picture of the grooms wearing custom Tom Ford tuxedos.
The Burtka-Harris family is famous for their fun and adorable costumes come Halloween time, a time David and Neil use to dress up themselves and their children in sweet joint costumes. Some past themes have included The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland and the Frankenstein family.
In any case, this is great news for the 'How I Met Your Mother' star. Congratulations to Neil and David!
