‘Frozen 2': Getting Sad Ending? ‘Powerful Message’ in Store for Kids? [Release Date, Plot & Rumors]

New "Frozen 2" reports are claiming that the film will not have such a happy ending, according to the Master Herald.

Director Chris Buck recently spoke to Movie News Guide and hinted at an unhappy ending.

Buck said that "Frozen 2" will focus on the characters of sisters Elsa and Anna, who will be polar opposites of each other.

The first film had a sad beginning, with Anna (voiced by Kirsten Bell) and Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel), estranged from each other due to Elsa's superpowers. However, the ending had its unique twist of "happily ever after," making it one of the most beloved movies in recent times.

According to the Master Herald, if "Frozen 3" doesn't exactly lead to a bitter end, there could be a third film, which would leave room for "Frozen" to break another Disney tradition and create an unhappy ending.

Nowadays, sequels have become a trend in the film industry, and this "Frozen 2" theory could prove true.

Other rumors claim that the upcoming film will have a societal impact, since Buck revealed this in an interview with MTV that the overall concept of "Frozen 2" is a strong one.

The possibility that a toned down film will be the outcome though, especially since children are Disney's primary audience.

"When the kids [watch] them, they watch them over and over again, and if we don't have a decent message in there, I think we've missed an opportunity," Buck told MTV.

The director added that the heart of the "Frozen" sequel will remain Anna's and Elsa's relationship, but with just more issues.

In addition, Buck previously mentioned something that seemed to affirm a social theme in "Frozen 2," particularly LGBT issues. Previous rumors say that Elsa could be a lesbian, and that she may come out in the second film, according to The Latinos Post.

"We have two very strong female leads in 'Frozen. We will keep that going in the next one. We will tackle other issues that, I think, are out there today that boys and girls, men and women, are dealing with," he teased.

"I think we're very aware of what is happening in society. I don't think any of us take [them] lightly, even though they can be very funny and entertaining, the messages that our movies have and the influence they can have on young people," he added.

Right now, the film is still in the initial stages of development, therefore anything is possible

"Frozen 2" is rumored to have a 2017 release date.
