A man who took pity on a homeless woman and wanted to buy her a meal to fill her hungry stomach was left dismayed after McDonald's staff refused to serve him his order, as per METRO.
Anil Barber from Bolton in the UK said, he was heading out from the fast food chain when he saw the young woman, shivering and was wet outside the restaurant. He said he felt sorry for the person as she was "young and she sat with her arms round her knees" under the cold weather.
The 38 year old man who was so eager to help the young woman came forward to the woman who was in sodden clothes, "asked her if she wanted anything" and she requested to "buy her a cup of tea." Anil who wanted to offer a little commiseration said, "It was the least I could do for her."
Barber said he already ordered his meal, so he went back to the counter to order for the homeless female but was dismayed by the staff's refusal. He recalled, "I was told by the manager that I wasn't allowed to buy her anything as she's homeless and I was encouraging her to beg." Adding, "It was outrageous, I couldn't believe what a jobsworth he was being."
Barber said he just left the woman with a "tenner" and was hoping that she somehow managed to find food for herself.
In defense, McDonald's said their refusal had nothing to do with her being homeless as they don't have a policy concerning homeless people. They said the particular woman was banned from the restaurant of China Gardens, Bolton because they would like to protect the interest of the customers and the staff's safety.
"We apologise if this was not made clear at the time," the food chain's spokesperson added.
