The new album "25" of the English singer and songwriter - Adele, has sold more than 2.3 million copies in the United States alone, after its first three days on the market. Adele's album got a stunning number for a music industry that has seen sales steadily fall in the digital era.
Putting Adele's album into perspective, only the '1989' album of the American singer-songwriter - Taylor Swift (which was released last year), Drake's album - "If You're Reading This It's Too Late" that was out on the market in April, and Ed Sheeran's 'x' album - unleashed in June 2014, have earned as much as one million copies all year round. But Adele's album went on sale just last Friday and already it has surpassed record holders.
On Monday, Nielsen Music (collects point-of-sale (POS) data in 19 countries across the U.S., Canada, Oceania and Europe) stated that Adele will definitely break the one-week record for album sales, set by the American boy band 'NSYNC ("No Strings Attached") in 2000 with 2.4 million.
The senior vice president for industry insights at Nielsen - Dave Bakula, said, "There isn't anybody that I've talked to in the music business who hasn't been astonished by these numbers."
The previous album of the 'Someone Like You' hitmaker - '21,' unleashed in 2001, has sold a healthy 11.24 million copies in the United States, but it's likely that many of the individuals who sought out the recently released album this weekend haven't bought an Adele's album since.
Since the 'Rolling In The Deep' singer did not give the necessary opportunity for streaming services like Spotify to make the "25" album available, people who were anxious to hear it, had to buy it.
Adele performed the single "Hello" from her new album on the television show "Saturday Night Live" this past weekend. And the 'Hello' track alone has sold 2.5 million copies in the four weeks it has been out on the market.
