After 18 years, Nathan Lane Weds His Partner Devlin Elliot
Broadway and big screen veteran Nathan Lane is embracing his newest role as a married man. The 59-year-old actor quietly wed his partner of 18 years, playwright Devlin Elliott, 43, on Tuesday.
"Nathan and Devlin were married in a small ceremony in New York City this week. Everyone is extremely happy," Lane's publicist said in a statement to People.
Lane had first publicly announced his marriage during a Wednesday night panel at the 92nd Street Y hosted by Joy Behar while promoting his new children's book, 'Naughty Mabel.' That book, co-authored with Elliott, is the first in a series based on the couple's real-life French bulldog, Mabel. "She's become our version of a child," Elliott said of their beloved pet. "Really all she wants is for you to pick her up and hold her like a baby." Lane added jokingly, "She's a little neurotic and needy at times. It's like living with a supermodel. And now that she's become a celebrity, you know, it's very difficult."
Just before The Producers star began dating Elliott, he iconically told a Us Weekly reporter who asked if he was gay, "I'm 40, single and work a lot in the musical theater. You do the math."
After years of speculation over Lane's sexual orientation, the Broadway star famously confirmed he was gay in 1999, though he had already told his family many years before at age 21.
Lane will next be seen in FX's 'American Crime Story' anthology series, playing famed defense attorney F. Lee Bailey in the first season, which focuses on the O.J. Simpson trial.\
