Zayn Malik reveals that One Direction's "generic" music is one of the reasons why he went to a different direction.
The 23-year-old singer from one of the most famous boy bands of this generation, One Direction, reveals why he decided to quit the band and go on a different direction earlier this year. He said it is because of the vocal restrictions that he was forced to observe and comply with.
He explained that he couldn't explore more of his talent because it seems that creativity wasn't allowed or considered in the band, he said that whenever he tries to recreate the tune of the song or make it more of what he wants it to be, like a little bit of R&B, it is always disregarded and that they would have to record it a lot of times just to hit the right tune that the producers want which is pop. "Generic as f**k"
Zayn also said that his suggestions and opinions seemed to have never mattered because what he suggests are not like what the boy band would usually release. "It was like it didn't fit us". He said that he wasn't really convinced of what they're selling because the management seemed to have a general concept of what the band is supposed to be.
The singer revealed that the band which now only consists of four-Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, were forced to record and produce pop music because as what the producers had said, the genre of the music that they are producing (Pop) is what makes them earn more and more money.
He said that he wasn't really behind the music, he records and sings in the boy band but it's not what he really is, and even though they're known to be as one of the most famous boy band in this world, it still felt weird because they were told to be happy even if they weren't.
The boys recently announced that they will be taking a break (a few months after Zayn left the group) and confirms that their break will take more than a year. They said they might work on their solos and to find more of themselves in this world.
