A few days back, the United Kingdom saw the second to last episode of the popular period show "Downton Abbey," weeks before the official finale, which will end the yearly tradition of a "Downton Abbey" Christmas episode - now, as the producers speak out what's next for the Crawley family?
The last time we saw the residents of the Abbey, the Dowager (Maggie Smith) had just returned from her vacation in the south of France to help granddaughter Mary (Michelle Dockery) in her time of need, with Mary marrying Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode) by the end of the episode, not before ruining her sister Edith's life (Laura Carmichael) in the process - will they finally see eye to eye after all these years on the "Downton Abbey" Christmas special?
According to Standard UK, the "Downton Abbey" Christmas episode will see the characters joining in the festivities themselves, as the Crawleys and their servants prepare to welcome 1926 in an episode set on New Year's Eve, 1925.
"Mary endeavors to build bridges with her sister while Edith's secret continues to pose a threat, despite having nothing left to lose," announces the press release for the "Downton Abbey" Christmas episode, via The Hollywood Reporter. "As Henry settles into the role of husband and stepfather, finding his place at Downton proves more difficult. Below the stairs, Carson faces some personal challenges, which prove that even he is not invulnerable to change."
As Radio Times reports, there will be a few additions to the regular cast on this year's "Downton Abbey" Christmas episode, with Lady Rose (Lily James) and her new husband Atticus (Matt Barber) coming back as well as her father, Shrimpie (Peter Egan) ... and Lady Edith's heartbreakingly past suitor, Bertie Pelham (Harry Hadden-Paton) making a return to hopefully take her back, bringing his seemingly overbearing mother (Patricia Hodge).
If you're in the UK, don't miss the Downton Abbey Christmas episode on December 25 - if you're in the U.S., you'll have to wait until January!
