Starbucks Coffee Company already offers four breakfast sandwiches on its La Boulange menu, but the chain is adding four more options, Businessweek reported.
The coffee chain unveiled four new breakfast sandwiches, all of which are now available nationwide. The sandwiches include: ham and swiss on a croissant; spinach, sun dried tomatoes, and cheese on ciabatta; egg and cheddar on toast; and a lower-calorie egg white, bacon, and cheese on an English muffin.
"These new offerings are in response to what our customers have been asking for like more variety of breakfast sandwich offerings, such as an option with a croissant, a more veggie-forward, and a lower calorie," said Starbucks spokeswoman Megan Adams in an e-mail.
Starbucks is also introducing its latest espresso creation, the Vanilla Macchiato. The drink is a combination of the most popular flavor, vanilla, with one of its most popular drinks, the Caramel Macchiato.
"Our baristas love to make the Starbucks Macchiato for customers. Pulling the perfect espresso shot, steaming milk into thick, velvety foam and finishing it off with pride ensures that each and every beverage reflects our passion, care and artistry," Cliff Burrows, Starbucks group president, U.S., Americas, and Teavana said. "It's our baristas who are at the heart of the promise we make to our customers - that they will receive the highest-quality beverages and delicious, wholesome food paired with an exceptional experience each and every time they're in our stores."
The new sandwiches are being introduced at a time when the coffee chain is trying to defend its turf from rivals on the fast-food breakfast sandwich market.
Dunkin' Donuts released its new Eggs Benedict sandwich on Tuesday. The grab-and-go version of the classic breakfast meal consists of Black Forest ham, egg and Hollandaise sauce substitute on a toasted English muffin.
Last week Taco Bell announced that it will soon be serving breakfast with items like a waffle taco and a breakfast wrap. McDonald's also announced that its company is considering extending it breakfast hours beyond 10 a.m.
