A few weeks back, Rob Lowe, the 80s star part of the Brat Pack (which included the likes of Demi Moore and Jon Cryer) who seems to be aging backwards along with John Stamos, premiered a new show called "The Grinder," prompting many to joke about the "gay Tinder" app - so Rob Lowe's Grindr recognition came to happen.
Jimmy Kimmel, probably one of the celebrities who jokes the most about his own sexuality (he's straight yet he never stops making references to having Grindr on his phone and his Handsome Men's Club), couldn't resist making those Rob Lowe Grindr jokes to the actor, so obviously he had the "West Wing" alum advertising it.
According to E! Online, the Rob Lowe Grindr joke saw the 51 year-old actor, who was on Kimmel's show to promote his new dating app-sounding comedy series, advertising a new app that allows guys who like watching his show connect with other fans to watch "The Grinder" together.
Of course, the whole thing was wordplay referring to the comedy vs. the famously casual hookup app, but that doesn't make Rob Lowe's Grindr fake visit any less amusing!
"GRINDR is a neat networking app that lets guys who like watching The Grinder connect with other guys in their area who also like watching The Grinder so they can meet up ...to watch The Grinder. How fun is that?!" the ridiculously handsome actor said, according to Advocate, during the Rob Lowe Grinder sketch.
For Flavor Wire's standards, Rob Lowe's Grindr joke was more on the cringe-worthy side, calling the joke "neither particularly original nor the most flattering portrayal of men who use Grindr," singling out a gag involving a banana as "groan-worthy," though it's a matter of each to their own.
In any case, as you can see in the clip below of Rob Lowe's Grindr, it seems like the actor may have been paid extra for every time he said the word "Grinder"!
