McDonald's has been sued for many things before, from making coffee too hot to using glass as an ingredient in their chicken sandwiches. However, this current lawsuit is one for the books.
It is being called the McDonald's napkin lawsuit.
According to TMZ, California resident, Webster Lucas, is reportedly suing McDonald's for $1.5 million because they gave him only one napkin with the meal that he ordered and received.
Lucas said he was "stiffed on napkins" after ordering a Quarter Pounder Deluxe at a Pacoima, Calif., McDonald's last month. After returning to the counter to ask for more, Lucas claimed that the manager refused and told him that he already received enough napkins.
The Times of India reported that racial tension may be a factor in the incident as well. Lucas, who is African American, reportedly told the manager, "I should have went to eat at the Jack in the Box because I didn't come here to argue over napkins. I came here to eat."
In response, Lucas said that the manager, who is a Mexican-American man, allegedly "mumbled something about 'you people.'" Lucas claimed he is "unable to work" due to the "emotional distress" caused by the incident.
"I am unable to work because of the undue mental anguish and the intentional infliction of emotional distress cause by your employee," Lucas wrote in an email to the general manager.
He reportedly received an apology that also cited the restaurant's policy of "friendly service with every visit without exception." Lucas was reportedly offered free burgers, but is now seeking $1.5 million in compensation.
