[THE SPOILERS ARE STRONG IN THIS ARTICLE]
There have been several rumors surrounding 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' which include the fate of Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren actually being Luke Skywalker, Han Solo meeting his demise in the movie and Finn being the son of Lando Calrissian. However, one of the longest running speculations about the highly anticipated 'Episode VII' has been the identity of the Skywalker twins who will be featured in the movie.
Although none of cast and crew of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' have actually addressed any of the rumors, Kathleen Kennedy may have confirmed something about the Skywalker children. In an interview with US Weekly, it was mentioned that Rey and Kylo Ren have been rumored to be twins and the Lucasfilm president was asked whether twins run in the Skywalker family.
"They could!" Kennedy responded.
Although it wasn't an actual confirmation that the characters Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver will play in the sequel ARE twins, Kathleen Kennedy has actually opened up the possibility that there will be possible Skywalker twins showing up in the new 'Star Wars' trilogy.
In the 'Star Wars' novels, Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa actually end up having twins named Jaina and Jacen. The female twin follows the path of the Jedi while her brother ends up becoming a Sith Lord.
Kathleen Kennedy also confirmed that the introduction of Rey as a lead protagonist in 'The Force Awakens' was important to her, although it shouldn't be a big deal.
"These kinds of questions and issues shouldn't be huge factors in our society any longer," she said. "It is quite staggering that we're still having to make a big deal out of the fact that there's a female protagonist."
In addition to Daisy Ridley, Gugu Mbatha-Raw has recently been cast as another female lead in 'Episode VIII.' There have also been rumors that the second installment of the new 'Star Wars' trilogy will feature a third major female character.
