A new snack is coming to the McDonald's menu. At a recently concluded investor's meeting in New York City, McDonald's US President Mike Andres announced that the company would be conducting a full nationwide roll-out of Mozzarella Sticks next year reports Buzzfeed. A serving of 3 sticks with an accompanying dip will cost about $1.
According to the site, the fast-food chain recently tested the dish in select markets in Wisconsin and New York over the summer. The company was inspired to go nationwide after seeing the success that the Mozarrella Sticks had in their limited run.
A Milwaukee based McDonald's employee told Eater that the meal was 'a very popular item'.
"While we know the vast majority of our growth will come from national initiatives, regional empowerment has given our local markets the power to plus up the national plan, drive incremental sales and profit, and provide a pipeline of new ideas for the system," Said Andres during the event.
The move is the latest step in McDonald's plan to reverse slumping sales. Last month the company released its much hyped all-day breakfast menu to much fanfare. The chain is also testing other products like sweet potato fries in select markets.
In the company's stronger than expected third quarter earnings report, CEO Steve Easterbrook said, "I am confident in the fundamental strength of the McDonald's System and our ability to drive initiatives that are focused on delivering the greatest benefit for our customers." He continued saying "While still in the early stages, we believe our turnaround plan is starting to generate the change needed to reposition McDonald's as a modern, progressive burger company."
According to Zacks, McDonald's expects to see same-store sales growth rise 3%-5% and operating income increase by 5%-7% in 2016.
The company did not disclose when exactly the Mozzarella sticks will become available.
