According to ABC News, researchers claim that some foods can help prevent breast cancer. Some oncologists are inclined to disagree that there are any links between food consumption and cancer, yet other doctors and scientists believe that eating these power foods can help lower your chances of getting breast cancer.
To start, brightly colored fruits and vegetables, like sweet potatoes, carrots, and dark leafy greens, are rich in carotenoids. According to the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, carotenoids are beneficial in reducing your risk of breast cancer. Carotenoids are believed to contain compounds that help with the regulation of cell growth, as well as help with cell repair and defense. These colorful fruits and veggies can be a good start to helping keep you cancer free.
Green tea may also be a useful tool, as suggested by a study from National Institute of Health's National Cancer Institute. They found that those who drank at least one cup of tea a day had less urinary estrogen, which is believed to cause breast cancer, than those who didn't drink tea. This does not include bottled tea, as it is suggested one should drink fresh brewed green tea for the best effect.
According to the International Journal of Cancer, a study also found that eating mushrooms can reduce your chances of breast cancer. The study indicated that women who eat 10 grams of more of mushrooms a day are 2/3 less likely to develop breast cancer.
There has also been a study which shows that the ellagic acid found in pomegranates can also reduce the chances of breast cancer. The acid suppresses estrogen production, which also suppresses the growth of cancerous cells in the breast.
The Omega-3 fatty acids found in fresh salmon are also thought to reduce the risk of breast cancer. A study from the American Heart Association shows that those who consume the most Omega 3 fatty acids are found to be 14% less likely to get breast cancer.
