Maintain the moistness and freshness of the food
Help reduce the use of unhealthy products for the body such as oil and etc.
Preserve all the nutrients, minerals, antioxidants and vitamins of the food
Consuming steamed food can:
Promote detoxification
Help boost one's immune system
Develop digestion
Based on a study, if a person regularly eats steamed food/vegetables it reduces his fat intake. It leaves the vegetable firm and keeps its flavor so that the need of adding artificial additives that can be health damaging decreases as well.
Since steaming vegetables can reduce the use of unhealthy oil that produces bad cholesterol, others would just usually steam to avoid the oil. Meanwhile, there are those who drizzle olive oil on their vegetables but olive oil does not contain bad cholesterol, there are even antioxidants present in it that is actually healthy for one's body.
It is believed that eating steamed cruciferous vegetables such as, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbages and etc. can reduce the risk of a person being exposed to certain types of cancer. The glucosinolates present in the said vegetables can prevent the symptoms of tumor and steaming the vegetables can help keep the gluosinolates in it.
Overcooked or burnt food can produce a chemical called Acrylamide which can increase the risk of cancer especially for women, that's why it is healthier if a person avoids cooking, baking or even toasting food/vegetables because unlike steaming, it can't usually burn food.
Steaming food is not only beneficiary to a person's health. It is also an easier and a faster way to cook food.
