GamerGate Movie: Zoe Quinn Sells Memoir On Video Game Scandal To Amy Pascal, Scarlett Johansson Tipped To Star

Last year, the gaming and geek world became the focus of media attention with GamerGate, a controversy lasting for weeks where women in the game development business were targeted in a harassment campaign that prompted a lot of talks on sexism in the industry - and one year later, there's a GamerGate movie in the works.

Zoe Quinn, the creator of the game "Depression Quest" and one of the most resounding names in last year's controversy, penned a memoir set to be released soon called "Crash Override: How to Save the Internet From Itself," and Amy Pascal, the former chairperson of Sony Pictures up until the leak, has bought the rights to turn it into a GamerGate movie.

According to Deadline, Pascal won a harsh bidding battle for the rights to the GamerGate movie after several film and television studios tried to get their hands on the book, with several actresses circling the project to star in the role of Quinn - and "Avengers" star Scarlett Johansson is the leading contender so far.

Screen Crush reports that while the story will be based on Quinn's book, the proposed title for the GamerGate movie is in fact "Control Alt Delete," and there are several actresses besides Johansson interested in playing the role.

Johansson has been a fairly active part in the geek community through her films, having starred in several science fiction movies as well as her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and she's set to star in a live-action adaptation of the classic anime "Ghost in the Shell," so it's hardly surprising that she's interested in starring in the GamerGate movie.

According to IndieWire, the screenplay for the upcoming film will be penned by Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker, while Quinn's book won't officially be out until September next year.

Expect more news on the GamerGate movie.
