Fresh out of her sleeper science fiction hit "Ex Machina" and having recently been cast in the next "Jason Bourne" sequel co-starring Matt Damon, Alicia Vikander has been quickly making a name in the film industry for herself in the past few months - could she become the lead in the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" sequel?
Earlier this week, it was reported that the American "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" sequel was finally in the works, though it seems unclear whether it'll be a follow-up or a full reboot of the series, and it was revealed that Rooney Mara wouldn't be coming back to reprise her Oscar-nominated role as Lisbeth Salander - and it seems the studio is eyeing Vikander for the part.
According to The Wrap, Sony Pictures is looking to go forward with a "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" sequel, over four years after the original one was released (co-starring "Spectre" actor Daniel Craig), though it seems neither of the stars will return, nor will the first film's director, David Fincher.
IGN reports that the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" sequel will be an adaptation of the fourth novel of Stieg Larsson's "Millennium" series, a book called "The Girl in the Spider's Web" and written by David Lagercrantz after the original author passed away.
Slash Film reports that Steven Knight (who's written "Locke" and "Burnt" in the past) has been tapped by Sony Pictures to write the screenplay for the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" sequel/reboot, so the film's in the earliest stages of development as of yet.
While it's unclear who'd take Craig's role, Vikander as Salander seems like a great choice, as the actress has not only showed her chops in the past but she's also the right nationality, as she's Swedish like the original character.
