Steam Introduces New Feature Called 'Item Stores', Game Developers Can Now Sell In-Game Contents Through The Platform

Steam, an internet-based digital platform has just introduced a new feature called Item Stores. With the addition of the new feature, game developers can now sell their in-game contents through the use of web interface.

The platform developed by Valve Corporation continues to evolve as it now developed a new idea in which gamers can now purchase downloadable in-game contents where the prices will depend on the decision of different game developers.

The new feature was first adopted by the video game Rust which is a survival computer game developed by Facepunch Studios. In the said Steam page of Rust, various in-game weapons and gears are being sold which include rifles, pistols, sleeping bags, hoodies and themed hats that actually look like the same in the game.

In a certain forum, a Steam representative explained the mechanics and objectives of the new Item Store.

"This new Item Store is designed to make it easy for developers to establish an in-game economy or to just sell individual cosmetic items, keys, or consumables," posted by the representative within a certain private developer-oriented community.

"And, it's designed to easily integrate with a curated Workshop (similar to Team Fortress 2) so you can accept user-made items, use that data to create item definitions and prices in the Steam Inventory Service, and set those items for sale via the Item Store," the representative stated.

The new Item Store from Steam is considered as a very good feature as it will make the life of game developers a lot easier. The only possible problem is the difficulty of the sellers to vend their products as the game developer will be the one to decide whether the said product is worthy of being sold.

Last April, a similar feature was first introduced by Steam where the sellers can sell their creations through the use of Steam Workshop.
