Thirty-two year old Daniel Fleetwood wants to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens like anybody else. Except that his plea is much more serious than most. Fleetwood is suffering from spindle cell sarcoma, a cancer that only gave him two more months to live.
In July, Daniel Fleetwood's doctors told him he only had two months to live. He is currently diagnosed with a connective tissue cancer more commonly known as spindle cell sarcoma. He has been a Star Wars fan since he was a young child of 8 or 9 years old. He told Houston's KPRC-TV that his disease has progressed intensively in the past few months and fears he won't make it to the December 18, 2016 movie premier.
Disney listened and the Texan gets his wish. On Thursday, Ashley Fleetwood - Daniel's wife - posted on Facebook that Disney will let him preview an unedited version of the movie.
A few days ago, social media mobbed on Twitter with the trending hashtag #ForcerForDaniel to bring attention to the cause. The hashtag was a means to get Disney's attention and grant Fleetwood his dying wish.
To make the cause more global and help spread the world, Star Wars stars John Boyega, Peter Mayhew and Mark Hamill even retweeted the post.
Ashley announced online the good news and expressed thanks to everyone who helped in the campaign. She also thanked J.J Abrams, the director of the movie, who personally called the couple to tell them that Daniel will get to see the movie before December 18, reports EW.
Spindle cell sarcoma is a connective tissue cancer where the cells are spindle shaped. The tumors start at the body's connective tissue under the skin, between muscles and organs. It can develop for a variety of reasons including injury and inflammation in patients predisposed to such tumors.
