Amy Winehouse Movie Starring Noomi Rapace On The Way, Riding Asif Kapadia’s ‘Amy’ Documentary Success

It's been over four years since superstar Amy Winehouse tragically at 27 in her London home, and after tributes have poured in for the entirety of that period, now it's time for Amy Winehouse's movies to enter the scene - and there's now one biopic ahead.

Earlier this year, director Asif Kapadia released an Amy Winehouse movie documentary telling the story of the singer's troubled life through edited archival footage to grand success, and now it's been announced that Noomi Rapace, the Swedish actress who came into prominence in her native country's adaptations of the "Millennium" book series, will be playing the English songstress.

According to Screen Daily, Rapace is currently in early talks to star in the upcoming Amy Winehouse movie, which for now has a working title of simply "Amy Winehouse," working from a screenplay written by Kirsten Sheridan (best known for directing "August Rush"), who will also be directing the film.

Indie Wire reports that, ahead of the Amy Winehouse movie that's very early in development, the production company is currently managing a deal to obtain the rights to Winehouse's music, including huge hits like the tragically accurate "Rehab" and "Back in Black" - they'll have to convince Mitch Winehouse, the late diva's father and the person who manages her estate, who recently expressed disappointment at the way he was portrayed in the documentary about his daughter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming Amy Winehouse movie was produced by Alexandra Whitlin, in a project co-repped by CAA and UTA.

Before Adele came into the picture, Winehouse was the biggest English diva around, and after her death from alcohol poisoning her second album, "Back to Black," became the second best-selling one in the 21st century in her native United Kingdom with more than 20 million copies sold.

There's still no further confirmation on the Amy Winehouse movie.
