Selena Gomez Opens Up About Friendship With Demi Lovato 'We Did Fall Apart For A While'

Selena Gomez admits that after a rough patch her relationship with Demi Lovato is stronger than before.

According to New York Daily News, the 20-year-old singer opened up about their fractured friendship in the March 2014 issue of Seventeen magazine stating that she was not always by Lovato's side.

Gomez admitted she turned her back on Lovato during her 2010 stunt in rehab, for an eating disorder and self-harm issues. The "Come & Get It" reconnected with "Made in the USA" singer after she made her struggles public.

"I've known her since we were 7, and we did fall apart for a while," the singer said in an interview with Seventeen. "She was going through things and I was so young and it was confusing. I processed it saying, 'OK, I don't understand what she's going through so I'm just going to do this.' I don't think it was fair, and I'm so happy that I have her back in my life now.

"Demi's very, very strong. She's the only person that I would tell the deepest, darkest secrets to. The only person," she said.

During an interview with U.K.'s Company magazine last May, Lovato opened up about feeling alone during her time in rehab.

"A couple of months before I went to rehab, I had a birthday party, and there were a couple hundred people there," she said. "It was full of people who I considered my closest friends.

"When I turned my phone on after being in rehab for three months, I expected lots of text messages and phone calls. I had four texts. That was a wake-up call," she said.

Gomez praises Lovato doing everything she can to turn her life around.

"I feel like we're all given what we can handle, and clearly someone thought she could handle so much, and she did," Gomez boasted. "She's incredible for that. I couldn't imagine going through some of the things that she went through, and the fact that she is who she is today is insane, she's one of my inspirations."

During a May 2013 interview with MTV News, Lovato called Gomez a great soul and a person close to her heart.

"We've been through a lot together," she said. "We've had periods of times when we grew apart, and we just didn't really talk. But now we're in a place where we realize that life is so short, and that when you have people in your life that love you so much, then you should just always be around them."
