PewDiePie: YouTube Star Defends New YouTube Red Paid Monthly Subscription, Basically Says It’s Everyone’s Fault For Using Adblock

PewDiePie, real name Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, is the biggest vlogger in the world with more than 10 billion views to his channel, so it's unsurprising that his two cents on the newest subscription service, YouTube Red, gets a lot of people interested - but PewDiePie's YouTube comments are raising more than a few eyebrows.

In a recent blog post posted on his Tumblr profile, PewDiePie from YouTube wrote his thoughts about the recent launch from the video-sharing company, arguing that despite the billions of views the website got, YouTube was in fact not profiting, quoting an article from The Daily Mail to make his point.

"What people don't realize is that YouTube Red exists largely as an effort to counter this," wrote the YouTube megastar, via Wired, speaking about how using systems like Adblock damaged YouTube's business model. "Using Adblock doesn't mean you're clever and above the system. It exists because Adblock has actual consequences. There are questions that remain to be answered -- will it be beneficial for smaller channels? Is the price justified?"

As BBC reports, considering PewDiePie's YouTube profile reportedly earned the Swedish star about $11 million over the past year, his stance defending the new paid service is far from surprising - particularly considering he shared on the same blog post that his own show "Scary PewDiePie" will be available through YouTube Red.

According to Digital Music News, PewDiePie's YouTube comments saw the Teen Choice Award winner carefully choosing his words to avoid insulting his own fans, taking an instance very much like the one Taylor Swift took during her Apple Music debate, saying that while it wasn't a big problem for him (his own revenue can more than suffer advertising blockers), it was "devastating" for smaller channels on the site that depended on this.
