Foodies, rejoice!
Celebrity chef and TV personality Anthony Bourdain has reportedly signed a deal to open a large international food market in Manhattan, according to the New York Post, Page Six.
The Post reported that the sharp-tongued former chef and gastronomic explorer, is working with CEO of WiNK Retail Group Stephen Werther and the project is currently in the early stages of creating a market that will showcase "cuisines from all around the world," such as Singapore-style street food.
Bourdain, who host the hit series "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown," is hoping to bring his experience from being an international chef.
"As the greatest city in the world, I've long felt that we should have the kind of delicious, diverse food centers that Singapore ( for instance) enjoys," Bourdain told Eater. "My likes are pretty well known: dai pai dong in Hong Kong, Boqueria in Spain, hawker centers in Singapore, street tostadas in Ensenada. To the extent that I can help bring those things home to New York, along with a truly interesting collection of home grown innovators, I will be very, very pleased. If nothing else, I hope to soon be able to enjoy a really good Chicken Rice in NYC."
Bourdain, who is an author and CNN personality, hopes the market will "give young chefs a showcase to strut their stuff." No name has been revealed for the future unknown location, but the Post reported that the market could possibly be called Anthony Bourdain World Market.
"We are ready to go with the concept," Werther told Post. "So we are going to be doing some very cool and unexpected pop-ups between now and the opening...showcasing different parts of what will be incorporated into the final big market.
"I am a huge foodie, so you can only imagine how much fun this project is to work on," he said.
