'Ash Vs Evil Dead' Recap: 'El Jefe' Proves That The Deadites Don't Stand A Chance Against Bruce Campbell

The season premiere of 'Ash Vs Evil Dead' has made sure everyone knows Bruce Campbell is back, and he'll do everything to get rid of the Deadites!

The pilot episode titled 'El Jefe' reintroduced Ash Williams to his 'Evil Dead' fans but also made sure that new viewers will understand what they are looking at right away: a middle-aged one-handed stock boy who would do just about anything to get with the ladies, and also happens to be responsible for unleashing demons into the world. The episode doesn't waste too much with storytelling and immediately launches into Deadite attacks from all directions.

'El Jefe' also introduces Ash's coworker Pablo and new girl Kelly, who both end up helping Value Shop's longtime stock boy in the battle against the Deadites. The final fight scene has the two new characters witness the power of Ash Williams' chainsaw arm as he takes on a Deadite in his own double-wide. There is blood, gore and comedy, everything the 'Evil Dead' franchise has ever stood for, and there is a good reason behind that.

The pilot episode was directed by 'Evil Dead' creator Sam Raimi, who seems determined to make sure 'Ash vs Evil Dead' is off to a shocking and hilarious start.

But where is Lucy Lawless as the mysterious Ruby Knowby?

Although the 'Xena: Warrior Princess' star was not featured in the season premiere, it seemed like a good choice to exclude her for now so her presence doesn't take the spotlight away from Bruce Campbell, who towers over 'El Jefe.' It may have been around 30 years since Ash Williams accidentally unleashed the Deadites into the world, but the actor still enjoys showing off his slapstick humor. The time-traveling hero may have added a few inches around his waist, but there is no doubt that Ash is back, and he is ready to kick for Deadite butt.

'Ash vs Evil Dead' airs on Starz every Saturday nights.
