Christmas came early for Harry Potter fans, the wizard is coming to the stage.
According to the Associated Press, J.K. Rowling, author behind the Harry Potter series, will be working on a play about the boy wizard's life, before attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
In a statement, Rowling said the play will "explore the previously untold story of Harry's early years as an orphan and outcast" and will "offer a unique insight into the heart and mind of the now legendary young wizard."
Rowling will be a co-producer on the show. She will be working alongside veteran British theater producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender. The author will collaborate with the writers, but will take no part in writing the play herself, the AP reported.
"Over the years I have received countless approaches about turning Harry Potter into a theatrical production, but Sonia and Colin's vision was the only one that really made sense to me, and which had the sensitivity, intensity and intimacy I thought appropriate for bringing Harry's story to the stage," the author said in a statement. "After a year in gestation it is exciting to see this project moving on to the next phase. I'd like to thank Warner Bros. for their continuing support in this project."
The seven-book saga began when Harry, an orphan child being raised by his aunt and uncle, receiving a letter, telling him he's a wizard. A writer or director has not been chosen for the play, as of yet.
No opening date has been set for the show, which is scheduled to premiere in Britain next year.
"The films will be inspired by Harry Potter's Hogwarts textbook of the same name, and will feature the book's fictitious author, Newt Scamander," according to a statement on Rowling's Facebook page.
Rowling's Harry Potter novels have sold more than 450 million copies around the world. The books were also adapted into eight Warner Bros. feature films, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
