Enroll in Game of Thrones University Course, an Exclusive Course for GOT Book Lovers

Do you love Game of Thrones so much that not only do you have the complete set of GOT books, purchased some GOT paraphernalia, maybe have the Targaryen dragon figurines but you're also going to enroll in the Game of Thrones University Course? University of British Columbia is offering a course focusing on the Game of Thrones. The catch? Only those who have read the books written by George R. R. Martin are allowed to enroll, as a pre-requisite.

Unfortunately, direwolf-loving fans who have seen the show on HBO are not considered as potential enrollees. You have to read the books, too. The university has informed that the course offered will involve both the HBO TV Series - all five Game of Thrones season, and the reading of the five already published book by George R. R. Martin. It is imperative that students review these materials before the course starts in Spring 2016.

A syllabus by the university's Department of English announced that the course title will be: "Our Modern Medieval: The Song of Ice and Fire as Contemporary Medievalism." The course will take all the works of George R.R. Martin as the central focus of how medieval times are re-imagined right now. In the course, the class will be discussing and comparing today's High Fantasy inspiration to the 1970 Tolkien set. So, it's a head butt between Lord of the Rings Fans and Game of Thrones Fans.

This is great news for students who love to reference Game of Thrones as a metaphor when submitting their papers. The course will also discuss a number of theoretical and medieval texts that will be compared with particular GOT themes.

The course will be led by Instructor and associate professor Robert Rouse.

Whether you can attend the classes donned in your Westeros costume, that's a different story.
