McDonald's Employee Hands Couple Bag of Cash at Drive-Thru

Would you like a side of cash with that?

According to NewsChannel 5, a Tennessee couple was surprised when they pulled off with thousands of dollars in cash, instead of the breakfast they ordered from a McDonald's drive-thru.

Greg Terry, of Hermitage, TN., said after looking into the bag he realized it was a mistake and shortly after the employee realized the same. The McDonald's employee contacted the Terry family at their home and the family kindly handed back the money.

"It was the right thing to do," Greg told NewsChannel 5.

NewsChannel 5 reported that the bag of cash was meant for a bank deposit. An employee reportedly placed the paper takeout bag next to the drive-thru orders. The McDonald's employee then accidentally handed the bag of cash out the window.

"[It was] a fair amount of money. I could have gone shopping," said Stacey Terry, Greg's wife. "The second that he said it was their deposit, my first thing was let's get in the truck and take it back. There is no other way to have it. I couldn't live with myself."

Phil Gray, the owner and operator of the McDonald's, responded to the incident stating that he was grateful for the customer's kindness.

"We are grateful for this customer and the action they took upon realizing out error," Gray said. "We are looking into why this mistake happened, but what is most important to us is knowing that we are part of a community with the values that were evidenced by this person's actions."

The couple reportedly laughed off the experience and said they know it will never happen again.

"We'll be back. We'll be back," Greg said. "But, next time I'm sure we'll leave with our normal breakfast order."

Would you return the cash?
