Only a few months after Jon Stewart stepped down as the host of "The Daily Show" after 16 years on the job (in a beautiful farewell episode that included the likes of Stephen Colbert and "X-Men" actress Olivia Munn), the star has revealed what he's planning on doing with all this new free time ... and it involves Jon Stewart's farm.

The comedian and his wife Tracey bought Jon Stewart's farm, Bufflehead, in 2013, a 12-acre piece of land in Middletown, New Jersey - and now they've both announced that they'll be turning this spot into an animal sanctuary.

The Huffington Post reports that there had been rumors of Jon Stewart's farm being turned into a sanctuary for months, but it wasn't until last week when Tracey Stewart brought an end to the speculation by confirming that the reason they'd bought the land was just this purpose.

Tracey took the time to share this news on at Farm Sanctuary's annual gala last weekend, sharing their plans to turn Jon Stewart's farm into a safe haven for animals.

"We bought a farm in New Jersey, with the intention of starting a farm sanctuary of our own," Tracey told the audience. "We're getting married. Farm Sanctuary and us, we're getting married."

According to Philly.com, Jon Stewart's farm will be the fourth of its kind affiliated with organization Farm Sanctuary after outposts in California and New York, and it continues a lifetime of the family's affiliation with animal rights, with Stewart's wife Tracey being the author of a book called "Do Unto Animals," a book aimed at helping people get along better with their furry friends.

Farm Sanctuary has existed as an organization for 29 years now, and it's dedicated to making life better for animals and ending practices that are inhumane to them.
