Kickstarter Knife Raised $1 Million With $25K Goal, What’s So Special About Misen Knife? [VIDEO]

Innovative kitchenware is fairly popular on Kickstarter, as many are turning to technology to change up how things have been going on in the kitchen for decades; however, recently, a Kickstarter knife, Miso, managed to make its goal of $25,000 many times over after taking in over $1 million - so what's so special about this kitchen item that so many people chose to support it?

The Misen Kickstarter knife offers a cheap and affordable alternative to one of the most basic items in kitchens, as a good cooking knife will often go up over $3,000 - and these guys will be selling this one for less than a hundred bucks.

According to Food Beast, small company Misen launched their Kickstarter knife in early October, placing a $25K goal by October 22, which was met an hour after it was launched, with more and more donations giving it a budget well beyond their wildest dreams, with a total of a little over a million dollars by the time the campaign ended.

The creators of the 8.2-inch Kickstarter knife are Josh Moses, Peter Müler and Omar Rada, who decided to jump into the knife-making business over "frustration with existing products," also saying it's the one tool anyone who cooks will need for everything, besides how it's "healthier, fresher and more affordable" to cook at home.

Entrepreneur reports that, to design the perfect knife, the trio took the best elements of classic German and Japanese ones, then billing their own product as an "amazing knife at an honest price," retailing at $65 and had a $45 value for those purchasing it through Kickstarter.

"We took sketches and came up with a profile, then made 3-D prints of the knives. It's really cool and something we're really proud of," Moses told the Village Voice about designing the Kickstarter knife. "That was a huge part of the process for us, something that couldn't have been done ten years ago. Just being able to have Peter in Chicago come up with the design, have it printed in Brooklyn, and test it out, feel it out, send notes back."
