Johnny Depp Could Star In Film Adaptation Of Neil Gaiman's Childrens Book 'Fortunately The Milk'

It might be time for Johnny Depp to work on yet another film adaptation of a popular children's book.

According to Variety, the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star is currently in talks to star in a film based on Neil Gaiman's whimsical book 'Fortunately, The Milk.' There is a possibility that if a deal is made, Johnny Depp could play the time-travelling dad or one of the interesting characters the father encounters along the way.

Which interesting character? There are many to choose from. Johnny Depp could play Professor Steg, who has invented a Floaty-Ball-Person-Carrier or Nosfewatu (yes, that's how his name is spelled), who is one of the Wumpires. He might even be cast as one of the pirates with the original names like Captain Hook'n'Crook.

Whichever role Johnny Depp will be cast in, he will certainly be a welcome addition to the adaptation of 'Fortunately, The Milk,' which also features space-travelling dinosaurs, volcano gods, hungry piranhas, a time machine, some pirates and vampires that don't sparkle in the sunlight.

'Fortunately, The Milk' was published in 2013 and follows a father's lengthy explanation for his two children on why it took so long for him to come home with the milk for their breakfast. The children's book is not as dark as other Neil Gaiman books like 'Coraline,' which was also made into a stop-motion film featuring the voice of Dakota Fanning.

In addition to 'Fortunately, The Milk,' Neil Gaiman's other popular works are also being adapted for movies and TV. The long-awaited adaptation of the Vertigo comic series 'Sandman' will be directed by 'Inception' star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and is expected to start filming next year. Meanwhile, the bestselling novel 'American Gods' will be turned into a TV series for Starz by 'Hannibal' creater Bryan Fuller with the help of Gaiman himself, who will be writing some of the episodes.

There is no word yet on when 'Fortunately, The Milk' will start principal photography.
