Mario Lopez Joins Grease: Live Musical Fox Premiere

Let's take a trip down the movie archive memory lane and remember Grease. Grease is a 1978 American musical romance and comedy-drama film by Director Randal Kleiser. The film was popularly starred by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. This Box Office hit also sequeled in 1982, Grease 2. Today, as revivals go, Fox decided to host a live musical and Mario Lopez will be joining the cast.

Mario Lopez will be joining Fox's live TV adaptation of Grease, in "Grease: Live". Lopez, the Extra host, will be playing Vince Fontaine in this new Fox venture. Vince Fontaine, in the 1978 romantic summer Broadway play, is a fictional version of Alan Freed (an American Disc Jockey). Vince hosts Rydell High's school dance as the DJ for a live national TV broadcast on "National Bandstand."

Lopez, the current Extra TV host and actor, had a successful run on television series, film and on Broadway. It should not come as a surpsie that he was casted for this role.

Aside from Mario Lopez, a host of other artists will be joining the Live show. Julianne Hough will play Sandy, the film's leading female actress originally played by Olivia Newton-John. Aaron Tveit will play Danny Zuko, the leader of a greaser gang known as the T-birds, originally played by John Travolta. Vanessa Hudgens will play Rizzo and Carly Rae Jepsen as Frenchy. In addition to the cast, Jessie J will open the show with a performance from the song "Grease (Is the Word)" in a new version.

The term Grease is a 1950's term for the slick back hairstyle the young working class in the United States had.

This new venture from Fox is a different direction towards Prime Time Musicals on Live Television.  That is to say, Fox is one to be not left behind after NBC's The Sound of Music Live hit back in 2013.

Grease: Live will air on Fox in January 31, 2016, EW posted.
