Katey Sagal Recognized More As Gemma Than Peg Bundy

Katey Sagal, whose famous for her big-haired redhead Peg Bundy character on the TV sitcom "Married with Children," has had a television makeover.

In a recent interview with Billboard magazine, Sagal discussed her transition from the mother of a dysfunctional suburban TV family 25 years ago to the cunning, ruthless biker mom Gemma Teller in the FX series "Sons of Anarchy".

"Now, it's more about Gemma," the actress told Billboard. "I did used to get it all the time, but no so much anymore."

During the interview, Sagal fiercely defended the show, which has come under criticism by some for its violent, at times dark, subject matter.

"I believe that as violent as the show tends to be, and gritty as it tends to be, it's also got a lot of heart," Sagal told Billboard. "It's about a group of outsiders. I think that anarchists are trying to make their way going against the grain. I think everybody has that side of them. I think it speaks to that. I think it's got a big 'real people' following. Not only is it entertainment, but people invest in it."

In addition to acting, Sagal has released her third album of personal songs titled, "Cover". The actress, whose music can also be heard during "Sons of Anarcy," was a back-up singer for Bob Dylan.

"Every season I sing at least one song in the soundtrack," she revealed for the more casual Sons fans out there. "My husband, who writes the show, and Bob, who does the music, came up with great covers for me to do. I was on that track, doing covers on the show, so I thought I would continue that. It's been great."

"Sons of Anarchy" centers around a tight-knit outlaw motorcycle club located in a fictional Central Valley California town. Sagal's character is married to the biker gang's president Clay Morrow, played by veteran actor Ron Perlman. In real life, Sagal is married to "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter.
