Salad and Sandwich Recall: 90 Tons of Prepackaged Products Suspected of E. Coli (FULL LIST)

A Northern California company is recalling more than 90 tons of ready-to-eat salads and wraps after some of its products were linked to cases of E. coli infection, sickening 26 people in three states, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service reported Sunday.

Richmond-based company, Glass Onion Catering, are recalling approximately 181,620 pounds of salads and sandwich wraps containing cooked chicken and ham.

"Based on epidemiological information, 15 case-patients reported consumption of ready-to-eat pre-packaged salads prior to illness onset," the agency reported, according to CNN. "A traceback investigation determined Glass Onion Catering was the supplier of the products implicated in the outbreak."

In Washington, three people who were sickened with the bacterium told investigators they ate ready-to-eat salads from Trader Joe's, said Tim Church, a spokesman with the state's Department of Health.

The recalled products might be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, a statement released by the agency said. The products were produced between Sept. 23 and Nov. 6.

The products were shipped to distribution centers in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Texas. According to The Contra Costa Times reported the company supplies food to Trader Joe's, Super Fresh Goods and Delish.

While uncommon to find E. coli O157:H7 in a poultry product, FSIS officials said they would continue the investigation with the other agencies.

The symptoms of an E. coli O157:H7 infection include diarrhea that may be bloody, along with severe abdominal cramps. Most people recover within a week, but some develop hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a severe complication that can lead to kidney failure.

Symptoms of HUS include easy bruising, decreased urine output, and pallor. The USDA command individuals that are experiencing these symptoms, to contact their doctor immediately.
