We've seen it every year, Amazon hires more and more employees for the holiday season. This Christmas Season 2015, Amazon will be hiring 100,000 employees. That's about a 25% leap from previous year's hiring, the Associated Press reports.

The need for 100,000 additional employees this year will be to fill the slots required to operate for the Christmas holidays in Amazon's sorting and fulfillment centers in the United States. The company hired 25,000 regular employees and about 80,000 workers for the holidays last year.

In 2014, with the additional 80,000 Amazon employees, the company was able to expand its network when they offered Sunday delivery services and much more later cut-off ordering times. Only 10,000 seasonal employees transitioned to full time regular employees in 2014.

John Challenger, CEO, said that more and more shopping is being transacted online compared to actual physical retail stores. This justifies the need to hire people for warehouses compared to stores which hires customer-facing positions such as cashiers, sales people and the like. Amazon is staffing up to meet the expected increase in customer demand in this year's fourth quarter.

Not to be beaten by the holiday hiring rush, Macy's hiring 85,000 holiday employees, Target, 70,000 and Wal-mart, 60,000. They're also looking into the online business section and will be filling warehouse positions because of the rise in online orders.

Will these three companies be able to catch up with Amazon's online score this year? Regardless, Greg Foran, CEO of Walmart's US Divison claims that customers still prefer an interactive shopping experience in physical retail stores. Doug McMillon also mentioned that customers love to shop in stores and that they'll want great stores. "First, win with stores," McMillon said.

Be that as it may, if you're looking for extra income this Christmas season, these companies are ready to hire when and if able.
