[WATCH] Michael B. Jordan Run His Butt Off On The New 'Creed' Featurette! Find Out How The Rocky Spinoff Came To Be [VIDEO]

There is a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming 'Rocky' spinoff that will star 'Fantastic Four' actor Michael B. Jordan. In addition to featuring one of the hottest new talents of the moment, 'Creed' is also on the brink of rebooting a film series that once captivated audiences with a true underdog.

But whose idea was it to bring back the franchise that made Sylvester Stallone famous? According to the new 'Creed' featurette, it was none other than director Ryan Coogler.

In the 'Generations' featurette, the 'Fruitvale Station' director admitted that he grew up watching the 'Rocky' films. Ryan Coogler shared that his father was a big fan of the movies who made his son watch 'Rocky II' before his games.

Rocky Balboa's underdog story apparently stuck with the 29-year-old director, who eventually moved to Los Angeles and pitched the reboot story to Sylvester Stallone. The veteran actor admitted that he was initially surprised that Ryan Coogler was interested in Rocky's story but decided that it would be a great idea to reintroduce the iconic character in a new way.

Michael B. Jordan, who will play Adonis Creed in the film, is understandably thrilled to be in the movie.

"Carl Weathers did such an incredible job with Apollo Creed and it's an honor to be part of the process, and be part of this legacy," he said, adding that it was a major step for Sylvester Stallone to agree with the spinoff film.

"For Sly to take those characters that he created and entrust them to this next generation of filmmakers, it's pretty breathtaking," Jordan said.

'Creed' follows the story of Adonis Creed as he tracks down Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) to help train him so he can continue his father's legacy.

Catch Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone in 'Creed,' which will be released on November 25.
