Golnesa "GG" Gharachedaghi Starts Chemotherapy for Rheumatoid Arthritis

The Shahs of Sunset star,Golnesa "GG" Gharachedaghi , revealed she'd be undergoing treatments as she continues to battle crippling rheumatoid arthritis.

Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi posted on Instagram on Friday, writing, "Today is the day I begin the process of chemotherapy" next to a picture of the quote, "I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say 'Because of you I didn't give up."

"Never have I ever been so scared yet so excited at the same time," Gharachedaghi continued. "I'm scared because, well, the f---ing obvious, it's chemo! But I'm excited because for 5 years I've put this off because of my fear of the word 'chemotherapy' and I've now reached a place of acceptance."

Shahs of Sunset is an American reality television series that airs on Bravo. The series debuted on March 11, 2012.

The series follows a group of Iranian American friends living in Beverly Hills (and the greater area known as "Tehrangeles"), who are trying to juggle their active social lives and up-and-coming careers while balancing the demands of their families and traditions.

She continues, "My RA is working in overcharge and my health has not been getting better. But today I will take charge and hope for a better tomorrow. Hopefully I will inspire others to not be afraid as well. Thank you all for always being so supportive of me on this journey. Wish me luck!!!"

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disorder that primarily affects joints. It is manifested in warm, swollen, and painful joints. Pain and stiffness often persists following rest.

The wrist and hands are the ones most commonly affected with typically the same joints involved on both sides of the body.

GG has the painful disease in 32 of her joints.

While chemotherapy is most often used to treat cancerous tumors, the drugs can be used in lower dosages to treat rheumatoid arthritis. The treatment is used to slow cell production and the process of inflammation.

There is no cure for RA, but chemo can help reduce the symptoms and painful joint swelling.

Thankfully for the 33-year-old, GG  because the chemo dosages are lower when treating arthritis and the side effects, such as vomiting and fatigue, are not as pronounced.

The Bravo star also underwent surgery on her hand three months ago to treat the disease, and last week shared a before and after photo in support of World Arthritis Day on October 12.
