Last Friday was of the biggest day in the world this year for sneaker enthusiasts due to the release of Jordan brand's highly anticipated sneaker collaboration with legendary streetwear label Supreme.
Individually, each brand is already capable of generating a titanic amount of buzz; so you can only imagine what happened when they decided to join forces.
The collaboration's release date was kept under lock and key and was revealed just a day before the actual launch. The coveted pairs of shoes were made available at Supreme's retail stores in London and Tokyo as well online. The brand decided against an physical release at their US locations - a wise decision, given the amount of sneaker related violence that has been cropping up around the scene recently. On the day of the launch, social media was flooded with images of the enormous crowds gathered in line to try and score a pair.
The relative civility of the in-store lineups was a stark contrast to the mood online, as scores of irate customers voiced their frustrations at Supreme's web store. The brand's online storefront is a noted haven for programmed 'bots' that are designed to purchase whole batches of inventory before legitimate customers have a chance to act. Here's a sampling:
The shoes, which had an SRP of $198, were spotted on the secondary market soon after with a considerable markup attached.
Even Jordan's rivals Adidas had something to say about the whole thing.
