New Petition Wants Microsoft to Make Windows 10 Updates Optional and Transparent

Microsoft has been launched back into the spotlight care of its all-around OS Windows 10. It has gained massive success with over 110 million users now on the desktop-mobile OS. However, months after its release, criticisms have begun to spring up. The latest noise was made by Susana Bradley, a computer network and security consultant who also writes for the Windows Secrets newsletter. She is well-respected name in the Windows world and is an expert on the matter, Computer World noted.

In late August, she initiated a Change.org campaign to address problems with the new OS. The issue is a fundamental one: updates. Windows 10 updates, unlike previous versions, are mandatory and do not give users the option to decline. In the petition, the first proposal is to give Windows 10 users more control over updates. The second proposal is for Microsoft to provide detailed breakdowns of what are included in each update.

Users of previous Windows versions, especially Windows 7 and the bug-ridden Windows 8 and 8.1, first complained of forced updates from Microsoft. Users would receive a notification that Windows 10 was ready to install and only a reboot was necessary. This is a big problem as there are many users who wish to upgrade at a later date or even not at all. Microsoft has since replied to the this by apologizing for the optional delivery to be erroneous set to install by default, Inquisitr reported.

Updates, as Windows users are very much aware of, can cause their systems to crash. The capacity to revert back to older versions was one of the advantages of using Windows, however nagging their notifications may have been. The overly-aggressive promotion of Windows 10 has not only caused unwanted updates to devices but also makes no mention what the updates contain.

Bradley's message is clear, "Microsoft must give Windows 10 users more control over when updates are installed. We need the ability to delay or hide damaging updates that impact the computing experience, have undesirable side effects such as blue screens of death, or reduce the functionality to attached devices. Under the current system of mandated updates, we have been adversely impacted by forced driver and firmware updates plus other patches."
