A few weeks back, it came out that there would be a Nicki Minaj show starring the rapper in a fictionalized account of her life as a sitcom on ABC Family, prompting television host darling Ellen DeGeneres to parody what Minaj's series would be like - but the hostess' take has been called out over racism.
For the clip on Nicki Minaj's show, DeGeneres parodied what it must've been like during Minaj's childhood (as the show will be based on her growing up and ultimate rise to fame), and the clip hit a nerve over its simplistic and offensive brand of comedy: on it, there was black family who had very large derrieres like Minaj does, and they were so big they'd trip over things over and over again.
According to Perez Hilton, DeGeneres' clip, which she introduced as a "sneak peek" of what Nicki Minaj's show would be like, has set Twitter in flames as many have turned to the social network to call out the Oscar host over body shaming and racism against black women's figures.
As Gawker's review of the skit notes, the joke of Ellen's take on Nicki Minaj's show was lost on everyone, as many wondered what was supposed to be funny about the skit, whether it was the fact that the rapper has a big butt (which is not a joke but actually fact) or if "black women's bodies are absurd."
DeGeneres hasn't commented back on the controversial skit on Nicki Minaj's show yet, but outlets continue to criticize the move, and, as Think Progress reports, there has been a wave on Black Twitter demanding the hostess to apologize for the skit as she's still in the middle of the controversy.
